Joe Dan Lawrie is known worldwide for his knowledge and accuracy in turquoise grading, as well as his skill in extracting rough stones from mines and cutting and polishing them for jewelry use.
In order to buy and sell stones and broaden his knowledge, Joe has met with collectors, artists, museums and stone excavators from around the world, worked with geologists, mineralogists and archaeologists and viewed some of the most valuable specimens.
The turquoise collected from the two previously published books ("TURQUOISE" and "Turquoise Unearthed," both written by Joe Dan Lowly and Joe P. Lowry) and from over 100 mines owned by the Lowry family, is shipped all over the world thanks to Joe's knowledge and stone processing techniques.
Currently, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he not only runs the family business of buying and selling turquoise, which has been passed down through four generations, but also serves as the director of the Turquoise Museum and the owner of the Enchantment Mine in the same state, actively accepting requests from various parties for events such as stone appraisals and lectures on turquoise.
As a member of the Native American Friendship Project, a Native American organization supporting the recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake, he is collecting donations, visiting the affected areas, and spreading the message to the world that long-term support is necessary.
