There is a word " classic" that you often hear in the turquoise market . When you hear the word "classic," you think of "something old ." If someone explains to you that "this is classic turquoise," you will assume without checking that it is vintage and valuable .
In everyday life, classic means old, but in the world of turquoise, the word classic is actually used to mean "typical." Classic turquoise means typical turquoise .
Of course, as I mentioned earlier when discussing the value standards (grades) of natural turquoise, this depends largely on the color and matrix ; it just means that the overall appearance is typical, but this has nothing to do with the value standards of turquoise.
If you look at the page in the magazine "American Turquoise" that lists natural turquoise by origin and grade, you will see that there are stones here and there that are labeled "classic." If you look at this page, you will see that turquoise called "classic" is not necessarily high grade.
"Classic" does not mean "old" or "high value" . The standard of value is what is called grade, which is based on four indicators: condition, the mine where it was mined, color, and how the matrix is inserted . If you know that there are turquoises that are called classic, ranging from high grade to low grade , your impression of the price of turquoise will change.
